The proposed new planning reforms are causing significant disquiet amongst residents.
One specific issue is a change to the Borough housing target from 504 to 963 new dwellings built each year. This is excessive in a heavily urbanised area.
It is also proposed to reduce the level of local oversight over the planning approval process.
The local MP made no mention of this issue in his recent leaflet and neither he nor our three ward councillors informed residents of the massive increase in housing numbers.
Our view is that we must have more consideration of the impact on green space, local facilities and transport links. We must also ensure that the housing mix includes a good proportion of genuinely affordable homes and rented accommodation for families on lower incomes.
