[February 2021] All UK Local Authorities are set three-year housing targets by central government.
Conservative-run Havant Borough Council are the only authority in Hampshire to have missed their current target, having fallen short of the crucial 75% cut-off level for housing completion.
This is a very serious matter as it affects planning appeals.
In effect the Council has thrown away their right to prevent developers from building on land that is not in the Local Plan.
The Council claim that Covid and the nitrates issue have slowed down building… but our neighbouring authorities all met their targets despite facing the same challenges.
This is a disastrous failure by the local Conservatives, which has placed our precious green spaces under unnecessary threat.
